William Stratton
c1824-1865
William was baptised on the 29th February 1824, in Speen, Berkshire, the son of William and Hannah Stratton (nee Osmond) who were married on the 14th August 1820, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire. (William was from Newbury).
His father William was baptised on the 29th December 1790, in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Rebecca Stratton (nee Ham) who were married on the 26th October1789 at St John the Evangelist, Smith Square, Westminster. William’s father died aged 48, in 1839. He was buried on the 1st May, in Tangley, Hampshire
His mother Hannah was born c1785, in Whitchurch, Hampshire.
William and Hannah also had a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth, baptised on the 18th December 1825, in Speen.
The 1841 census records William (15), a Farmer, his mother Hannah (50), a Farmer and his sister Sarah (14), living in Tangley, Hampshire.
The 1851 census records William (27), a Draper & Grocer, living in Oldbury on the Hill, Gloucestershire. His mother Hannah (66) was recorded living with him.
No record found for William in 1861.
The 1861 census records Hannah (76) as a boarder at Church Farm, Linkenholt, Hampshire, the home of her son-in-law, Michael Osmond (56) a Farmer, her daughter Sarah Osmond (35) and their family. (Sarah Elizabeth Stratton married widower, Michael Osmond, in 1855, marriage registered in Newbury)
William died aged 41, on the 27th March 1865, in Newbury. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rd April.
His mother Hannah died aged 84, on the 27th November 1869. She was laid to rest with William, in the Newtown Road Cemetery, on the 3rd December.
