"Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. They rest from their labours and their works do follow them." East facing panel: In Loving Memory of George Westcombe who fell asleep after much suffering Dec. 17th.1917 aged 69 years. "Come unto Me and rest." Top of vault, South facing In Affectionate Memory of George Westcombe who departed this life Aug. 11th. 1868 aged 48 years. "Them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him." Top of vault, North facing: In Loving Memory of Sarah, widow of the late George Westcombe who fell asleep Dec.5th. 1899 in her 79th. year. "So He giveth His beloved sleep".

SARAH WESTCOMBE

THE FUNERAL of the late Mrs Westcombe, widow of the late Mr. George Westcombe, of Bartholomew-street, took place on Friday after-noon, in the family vault in Newbury Cemetery. The Rev, G. Bolderston, Superintendent Wesleyan minister, was the officiating minister. The mourners were: Mr J. Westcombe (Abingdon), Mrs. Higgs, Mr. John Westcombe (Chatham). Miss Wetstcombe, Mr. Geo. Westcombe (Sheffield), Mr. J.E. Westcombe, Rev M. Westcombe (Ampthill), Mr. H. Westcombe Icoveney), Rev. A. Westcombe (Footing), Rev. Jos. Westcombe (Middlesborough), Mr. B. Westcombe (London), sons and daughters; Miss E, Westcombe (Kingsclere), neice; Mr. Higgs, son-in-law.

Floral tributes were put on the coffin, which was of polished oak with brass fittings, by the sons, and daughters, grandchildren and “her sisters”. The wish having been expressed that wreaths should not be sent by friends. 

This is followed by a list of some of those attending.

 

Messrs Penfold and Son carried out the funeral arrangements.
