Eliza Ann Lovell

1857-1857

Eliza Ann’s birth was registered in the September quarter, 1857, in Newbury. She was the daughter of William and Rebecca Lovell (nee Burton) who were married in 1857 (marriage registered in Newbury)

Eliza Ann’s death was registered in the December quarter, 1857, in Newbury. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th November, as Elizabeth Ann.

Eliza Ann’s father William was born c1831 in Dorchester Dorset

Her mother Rebecca was born in Marsh Benham, Berkshire, the daughter of Daniel and Mary Ann Burton. She was baptised on the at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, on the 22nd April 1832, the daughter of Daniel and Mary Burton (nee Miles) who were married on the 23rd March 1821, at ST Michael and All Angels, Enborne, Berkshire.

William and Rebecca also had another daughter, Mary Ann Amelia, born c1865.

The 1861 census records William (30,) a Coach Wheelwright and Rebecca (29), lodging in Oxford Road, Speen, Berkshire, with a Joal Dibley (78), a Bricklayer and his wife Harriet (52).

William died aged 39, in 1869, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th April.

After William’s death Rebecca worked as a Nurse.

In 1871 Rebecca (37) was working for a Farmer, Stephen N. Rowland (45) and his family, at Elmwood, Coulsdon, Surrey. Her daughter Mary Ann Amelia (6) was living with her uncle John Freeman (40), her aunt, Johanna Freeman (47), (nee Burton) and her cousins, Jane (9) and Sarah Ann (6), at 12 West Mills, Newbury, Berkshire.

In 1881 and 1891 she was recorded working for Leeds Paine, a Stocks and Shares Dealer and his family, at Heath Lodge, Egham, Surrey,

The 1901 census records Rebecca (67) living on her own means, in Sulhamstead Bannister Upper End, Berkshire. Her niece, Sarah Ann Freeman (36) was living with her and was also living on her own means.

Rebecca died 74, in 1906. (death registered in Kingsclere) She was buried on the 19th April in Reading Berkshire.
