John Butler
c1812-1857
John was born in Frilsham Berkshire. He married Caroline Stillman (born c1815 in Newbury) on the 3rd January 1836 at St Nicolas Church Newbury and they had the following children:

Charles 1838 (died aged 14 months, buried on the 8/1/1840 at St Nicolas Newbury)
George 1841 (died aged 22 in 1864 buried 23rd December at St Mary the Virgin Speen)
Kate 1842 (died aged 5 in 1848)
Alice 1844 (died aged 0 in 1845)
Agnes 1846 (died aged 15 in 1861 buried in the NRC on the 9th December)
Theresa 1848
Myra 1850
Emma 1852 (died aged 0 in 1853)
John was a Miller and in 1841 the family were living in Northbrook Street Newbury.
The 1851 census records John as a Miller employing 4 men, the family were living in Shaw Road when this census was taken.
Caroline died aged 42 in 1855 in Newbury and John remarried two years later, his 2nd wife was Ann Bridgeman (born c1817 in Faccombe Hampshire) . The marriage was registered in the December quarter of 1857 in Newbury.
John died aged 45 on the 27th October 1857 he was laid to rest in a private grave in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th October.
The 1861 census records Edward (a Miller) as the head of the household living in Shaw Road with his Brother George (a Baker), his stepmother Ann (recorded as mother-in-law) and his sisters, Agnes and Theresa. His sister Myra was recorded as a Boarder at Miss Ellen Ferris’ Boarding School in London Road Speen.
