Biographical Information

The articles below contain information about George Dell.

GEORGE DELL Ref: 1794 - 1857

GEORGE DELL Ref: 1794  - 1857

George was born in 1794 to William & Betty & was baptised on 21 September at St Nicolas, Newbury.

He married Hannah Purdue on 4 August 1819 at St Nicholas, Newbury. The record is incomplete: Q3 Newbury ? 84. In the 1851 census she is recorded as Maria. The baptism records for their children have her recorded as Hannah for the oldest two & Maria for the younger. No death record has been found for her , according to other family researchers, nor has a second marriage been found for George. Best guess is that she was Hannah Maria & used the second name as the oldest daughter was Hannah.

In 1841 they are living in Northbrook Street, Newbury, George, 45, is a Plumber & Glazier & Maria (Hannah) is 45. Their children are:

Hannah, 20; James, 15, Plumber; George, 14; Maria, 12 & Thomas, 4.

In 1851 Maria is presumed to have died before the census, although the death record has not been found.

George is 59, widower & ‘formerly a Plumber’. His children living with him are: Hannah, 30; James, 28, Plumber; George, 24, Plumber & Maria, 22.

3 visitors are staying with them.

George dies on 8 January 1857 at the Alms House, Newbury, aged 63, Plumber & Glazier. He dies from ‘Paralyses’ & his daughter Hannah (of 3, Raymond’s Alms Houses, Newbury) is present.

He was buried on 16 January 1857 at NRC.
