Edwin Collins (1854 – 1856)

 

Alice Collins was born in 1850 in Newbury, the daughter of Edwin and Martha, nee New, Collins. Edwin and Martha had married on 21 March 1849 at St Nicolas in Newbury. Alice was baptized as Alice Jane on 28 April 1850 at St Nicolas in Newbury, Edwin was recorded as a millwright.

 

In the 1851 census Alice was living with her parents Edwin and Martha in Pleasant Place in Newbury with Edwin recorded as an engineer.

 

Edwin and Martha had four more children, all born in Newbury, Edwin (1854), Edward (1857), Brice (1859) and Annie (1861).

 

Edwin junior was baptized on 30 July 1854 at St Nicolas in Newbury, his father Edwin was recorded as an engineer.

 

Alice died on 10 November 1856 at Pleasant Place, East Fields in Newbury from Pulmonary disease. She was recorded as six years old, the daughter of Edwin Collins, a journeyman millwright. On the death certificate she was recorded as Helen, which was also the name recorded for the service held at St Nicolas before her burial. In the Newtown Road Cemetery accounts books she was recorded as Alice though. Alice, or Helen, was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 15 November 1856.

 

Alice’s younger brother Edwin was also buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on the same date, 15 November. He was recorded as 2 years and five months old in the burial records.

 

Edwin senior and Martha continued to live in Newbury after the burials of Alice (Helen) and Edwin and both were buried at Newtown Road Cemetery, Edwin on 31 October 1862 and Martha on 1 March 1876.
