Edwin was born in Newbury Berkshire the son of Adam and Sarah Curtis (nee Danvers/Danvass) who were married on the 5th October 1834 at St Nicolas Church Newbury.

 

Edwin’s siblings were:

Emma Maria 1841 (died aged 1 in 1842

Victoria 1845 (died aged 2 in 1848)

Walter 1856 (died aged 3 in 1859 buried on the 25th February in the NRC)

 

The family lived in Mayor Lane Newbury.

 

Edwin’s father Adam worked as an Agricultural Labourer (1841), a Corn Porter’s Labourer (1851) (recorded as a Cripple no occupation 1861) and a Glass Dealer (1871).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Edwin died aged 1 in 1853 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th July (recorded as Edward Curtis in the NRC burial accounts).

 

His father Adam died aged 67 in 1879 he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27th September.

 

After Adam’s death his mother Sarah worked as a Straw Dealer, she continued to live at Mayor Lane until at least 1881. Later records show that she was admitted to the workhouse from the parish of Greenham where she died aged 77 on the 29th September 1888, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd October.
