William Perris
1878-1913
William, his parents, siblings and early life:
William was born in 1878, in Lingfield, Surrey, the son of John and Jane Perris (nee Cliffin) (No marriage found for parents)
His father John was born c1845 in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of Amos and Mary Perris (nee Wayling/Wailing) who were married in 1842 (marriage registered in Newbury)
His mother Jane was born in 1850 in Oxted, Surrey, the daughter of Thomas and Amy Cliffin (nee King) who were married on the 1st February 1845, in Godstone, Surrey.
Jane also gave birth to the following children (birth surnames highlighted):
Ellen Mary Cliffin, 1873, in Oxted, Surrey
John Pirriss Cliffin, 1876, in Oxted, Surrey
Amy Elizabeth, Perris, 1879, in Lingfield, Surrey (died aged 27, buried in the NRC on the 22nd Sept. 1906)
Thomas Perris, 1881, in Newbury.
The 1881 census records John (33) as a Day Labourer, living at 3, Lisle Court, Newbury, Berkshire, with Jane (31), Ellen Cliffin (7), John Perris (4), William Perris (3) and Amy Perris (1).
John (46), a Labourer, Jane (40), their children, John (14), a Labourer, William (13), an Errand Boy, Amy (11), Thomas (9) and their granddaughter Emily Beatrice Cliffen (1), were recorded living at 3, Lisle Court, Newbury, in 1891.
William in later life:
The 1911 census records William (35) as a General Labourer, lodging at the Weaver’s Arms, Cheap Street, Newbury.
William died in the Newbury Workhouse, in 1913, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 12th March. (age at death recorded as 39)
