Elsie May Tyler
1903-1912
Elsie was born in Yattendon, Berkshire, the daughter of Edward and Edith Mary Tyler (nee Wells) who were married on the 5th August 1899 in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire.
Her father Edward was born on the 14th February 1875, in Chilton, Berkshire, the son of Edward and Maria Tyler (nee Barrett) who were married in 1872 in Chilton Foliat, Berkshire.
Her mother Edith was born on the 4th October 1877, in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, the daughter of Charles and Sarah Wells (nee Taylor) who were married in 1865, in Hampstead Norris. Edith gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Gertrude Ellen Wells, in 1897, in Hampstead Norris.
Edward and Edith also had the following children:
William Ernest Edward, born 1900 in Hampstead Norris
Sidney Charles, born 1906 in Newbury
Stanley George, born 1911 in Newbury
In 1901 Edward (26) was working as a Farm Carter, living in a Cottage, in Hampstread Norris, Berkshire, with Edith (24), Gertrude (3), William (7 months) and a lodger.
The 1911 census records Edward (38) as a Farm Cowman, living at Rectory Cottages, East Woodhay, Hampshire, with Edith (34), Gertrude Ellen (13), Ernest William (10), Elsie May (7) and Sidney Charles (5).
In February 1912 both Elsie May and her brother Sidney Charles were patients in the Isolation Hospital, Newbury. Her brother Sidney Charles died aged 5, in the hospital, in February. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th February 1912.
Elsie May died aged 8, in the hospital a couple of weeks later. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd February 1912.
In1921, Edward (48) was living in Colthrop Cottages, Thatcham Berkshire, with Edith Mary (44), their son Stanley George (10) and a lodger. Edward was working as a Horseman at Colthrop Farm, for farmer Mr. F. Lay.
The 1939 Register records Edward living at 17 London Road, Newbury, with Edith. He was working at the Colthrop Board and Paper Mill, as a General Labourer.
Edward died aged 76, in 1951 (death registered in Newbury)
Edith died aged 94, in 1972 (death registered in Wokingham)
