Recorder's Notes N.B. Ellen's death date on the headstone is incorrect. It should be 1932. Percy & Stanley West were 4th & youngest sons of Gardener William West & Ellen nee Beszant who had 5 sons & 3 daughters. William was born in Corsham, Wilts, the son of a farmer, & Ellen was born in Trowbridge, Wilts to a gardener. They were married in May 1872 in Corsham and had arrived in Newbury by the 1881 census. They first lived in Shrewsbury Terrace off Buckingham Rd then moved to Craven, & later Berkeley, Tces in Berkeley Rd. William always worked as a Gardener (non-domestic). Percy was living in Berkeley Rd at the time of his death from peritonitis & heart failure (not from eating mushrooms & nuts as first stated in the NWN). Stanley was recorded as a Packer of Baking Powder in the 1901 Census when only 2 sons remained at home. William's address is recorded as 7, Berkeley Rd in the Burial record. Ellen was living with her single son Arthur, a baker, in Staines in the1911 census and is recorded in the NRC Burial records as being brought from 2, Winchcombe Rd (now A339) to her burial in Jan. 1933.
