Isabella Prince
c1825-1906
Isabella, her parents, siblings and early life:
Isabella was baptised on the 21st August 1825, at St Barnabas, Peasemore, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Eliza Prater (nee Holbrook) who were married in 1823 in Peasemore.
William and Eliza also had a son, Thomas, baptised on the 1st August 1824, in Peasemore. Thomas died aged 8 weeks, he was buried on the 7th October 1824, at St Barnabas, Peasemore.
Isabella’s father William was born c1797, in Peasemore. William (74) was recorded in the Wantage Workhouse in the 1871 census. He died aged 76, in 1873 and was buried on the 28th July, at St Peter and St Paul, Wantage.
Isabella’s mother Eliza was born c1799 (Place unknown). Eliza died aged 29, in 1828, she was buried on the 2nd March, at St Barnabas, Peasemore
Isabella’s father remarried in 1830. His 2nd wife was Elizabeth Slade.
William and Elizabeth had a daughter, Ruth, baptised in 1832 in Peasemore. Ruth died aged 2, in 1834, she was buried on the 30th September at St Barnabas, Peasemore.
William was widowed again in 1840, Elizabeth died aged 38, she was buried on the 1st July, at St Barnabas, Peasemore.
In 1841 Isabella (15) was recorded living in the village of Peasemore, Berkshire, with her father William (40), an Agricultural Labourer.

Bride: Isabella Prater, full age, spinster, abode, Peasemore
Fathers: William Prater and George Prince, both Labourers
Witnesses: William Fiddler and Sarah Taylor
(William was baptised on the 29th June 1823, in Leckhampstead, Berkshire, the son of George and Sarah Prince).
The 1851 census records Isabella (28) and William (29), a Labourer, living in Leckhampstead, Berkshire.
Isabella gave birth to a son, William, in 1857, in Leckhampstead. (The 1881 census records William as, imbecile from birth. The 1901 census records him as, imbecile/ feeble minded).
The 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 census records record the family living in Hill Green, Leckhampstead as follows:
1861: William (36), an Agricultural Labourer, Isabella (34) (recorded as Priccla on ancestry), William (4) and William Prater (66), (Isabella’s father) an Agricultural Labourer
1871: William (46), a Farmer’s Labourer, Isabella (43), (recorded as Isabla on ancestry) and William (14)
1881: William (59), an Agricultural Labourer, Isabella (55) and William (24)
1891: William (66), an Agricultural Labourer, Isabella (65) and William (35) (surname recorded as Hince on ancestry)
Isabella was widowed in 1898, William died aged 75. He was buried on the 17th October, at St James, Leckhampstead.
The 1901 census records Isabella (76) and her son William (44), still living in Hill Green, Leckhampstead.
Isabella’s son William died on the 4th March 1902, in the Newbury Workhouse. (Age at death recorded as 40). He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 7th March.
Isabella died aged 80, on the 24th March 1906, in the Newbury Workhouse. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th March.
