John Punter
c1833-1902
John, his parents, siblings and early life:
John was born in Enborne, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 19th May 1833, at St Mary, Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire, the son of Robert James and Elizabeth (aka Betsey) Punter (nee Burton) who were married on the 11th June 1832, at St Mary, Hampstead Marshall (both were single, witnesses, W. Burton and M. Partridge)
John’s father Robert James was born on the 11th January 1806, in Bloomsbury Middlesex. He was baptised on the 10th August 1806, at St Giles in the Fields, Holborn, London, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Punter.
John’s mother Betsey was baptised on the 2nd August 1812, in Hampstad Marshall, the daughter of John and Margaret Burton.
Robert James and Betsy also had the following children:

The 1841 census records Robert (35), a Plumber, Betsy (25), John (8), Henry (5), Margaret (3) and Elizabeth (1), living in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire. (Surname recorded as Puntin, on ancestry)
In 1851 John (18) was working as an Apprentice Plumber, Painter and Glazier, living in Hampstead Marshall, with his father Robert (45), a Plumber, Painter & Glazier, his mother Betsy (39) and his siblings, Henry (16), Margaret (13), Elizabeth (12), Frederick (8), George (6), James (4) and Augustus (1)

Bride: Isabella Pithouse, full age, spinster, occupation, Servant
Fathers: Robert James Punter, a Plumber and John Pithouse, a Labourer
Witnesses: Robert J. Punter and Margaret Punter
(Isabella was baptised on the 23rd June 1833, in Ham, Wiltshire, the daughter of John and Isabella Pithouse)
John and Isabella had the following children baptised at St Mary, Kintbury:
Blanche, 7th March 1859
William, 6th May 1860
Florence Isabel, 24th August 1864
Emily, 1st April 1866
The 1861 census records John (27), a Plumber, Glazier & Painter, Isabella (27) and their children, Blanche (2) and William (1), living in Kintbury, Berkshire.
The 1871, 1881 and 1891 census records record the family living in the High Street, Kintbury as follows:
1871: John (37), a Plumber & Painter, Isabella (37) Blanche (12), Florence (6) and Emily (5).
1881: John (47), a Plumber and Painter employing 2 men, Isabella (47) and Emily (15).
1891: John (57), a Plumber and Decorator, Isabella (57) and Emily (24) and a granddaughter, Mabel Smith (11).
By 1901 John had retired. John and Isabella, both aged 67, were recorded living at Holmlea, York Road, Newbury, Berkshire in the census for this year.
John died aged 69 the following year, on the 20th November. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd November 1902.
Isabella (78) was again recorded living at Holmlea, York Road, in 1911.
She died aged 80, on the 4th March 1914 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th March.
