Leonora Barson
c1837-1927
Leonora was born in Oxford the daughter of Joseph and Hannah Enston (nee Alder) who were married on the 20th October 1823, in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire.
The 1841 census records Joseph (45) as a Gardener, living in Union Street, Oxford, with Hannah (39), Richard (16), Ann (15), William (13), Henry (11), Robert (5), Leonora (3), Martha (1) and Rachel (7). (Surname recorded as Eustone on ancestry)
The 1861 census records Leonora as Ellen Enstone (21), a House Servant, living at 11 Park Place, St Giles, Oxford.

Place: St Philip and St James, Oxford
Date: 16th January 1865
Groom: Joseph Barson, aged 23, bachelor, occupation, City Policeman, abode, Parish of St Sepulchre, London
Bride: Leonora Henstone, aged 24, spinster, abode, Plantation Road
Fathers: John Barson, a Gamekeeper and Joseph Henstone, a Gardener
(Joseph was born in 1841 in Cumnor, Berkshire, the son of John and Ann Barson (nee Lovegrove) who were married in 1824 in Cumnor).
The 1871 census records Ellen (30) (Leonora) and Joseph Barson (29) a Police Officer, living at Scotland’s Ash Cottages, West Hagbourne, Berkshire.
In 1881 Leonora (40) and Joseph (39) were living in the village of Chilton, Berkshire. Joseph was still working as a Police Constable
By 1891 they were living at 4 Montague Place, Newbury. Joseph was again recorded as a Policeman. Also recorded living with them was Leonora’s nephew William Benjamin Bricknell (son of her sister Lydia)
The 1901 census records Leonora (60) and Joseph (59), now working as a County Court Bailiff, still living at 4 Montague Place, Newbury. Leonora’s nephew William Benjamin Bricknell was again recorded living with them.
Leonora was widowed in 1910, Joseph died aged 69, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4th July.
The 1911 census records Leonora (74), living at 4 Montague Place, with a lodger, Joseph Pounds (37), a Farm Labourer.
Electoral Registers 1918-1924 record her living at 4 New Church Almshouses, Newbury,
By 1925 Leonora was living at 60 Newtown Road, Newbury. She died aged 90 in 1927 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 2nd December
