Emma Louisa was baptised on the 8thMay 1823, in Great Bookham, Surrey, the daughter of Henry (a Labourer) and Elizabeth Stone (formerly Mears, nee Newman) who were married on the 11thOctober 1819, at St Giles, Ashtead, Surrey (both were widowed)
Emma’s father Henry was baptised on the 18thDecember 1778, at St Mary, Henley on Thames, Oxford, the son of John and Susanna Stone (nee Freeman) who were married on the 21stApril 1771, at St Mary, Henley on Thames. Henry died aged 81, in 1858, in Surrey.
Emma’s mother Elizabeth Newman was born c 1777, in West Grinstead, Sussex. (Elizabeth married Henry Mears on the 29thSeptember 1799, in West Grinstead, (Henry was from the parish of Bookham, Sussex). Henry and Elizabeth had a son Henry. Elizabeth was widowed by 1819 (Possible burial for her husband: Henry Meares, West Grinstead 19th May 1805). Elizabeth died aged 86, in 1863, in Surrey.
Henry and Elizabeth also had a daughter, Elizabeth Rosamond, baptised 12thNovember 1820, in Great Bookham.
In 1841 Emma (15) was living in Newtown Common, Hampshire, with her father Henry (60), an Agricultural Labourer and her mother Elizabeth (60).
The 1851 census records Henry (75), an Agricultural Labourer, Elizabeth (74) and Emma (27), living in Downside, Carshalton, Cobham, Surrey.
The 1861 census records Emma (30), as a Domestic Servant, at Woodbine Cottage, Byfleet, Surrey, the home of Henry James Yeowell (36), a Corn Dealer and his family.
In 1871 Emma (44) was recorded as a Domestic Servant, working for Ann Griffiths (65), at Cambridge House, Victoria Road, Surbiton, Kingston, Surrey.
The 1881 census records Emma (50) as a Domestic Servant, working for the Curate of Speen, Ernest Heseltine (27), in Speen Hill, Speen, Berkshire.
In 1891 Emma (67) was recorded visiting Harriot Spanswick (73), at New Raymond’s Almshouses, Newbury.
The 1901 census records Emma (74), as a Domestic Helper, living at 3 Albert Terrace, Newbury, Berkshire, with a widow, Ann Young (50), her three daughters and a Cook.
Emma died in 1902. she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29thMay. (Age at death recorded as 71)
