George Richard Partridge
1900-1901
George Richard was born in Newbury, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 25th May 1900, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the son of Richard George (also known as George Richard) a Reservist with the Militia and Sarah Partridge (formerly Ballard, nee Appleton)
George Richard died aged 9 months, on the 25th January 1901, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th January. (Abode at time of death, 9 Jack Street, Newbury)
George Richard’s Family:
His father Richard George was baptised in 1859, in Farnborough, Berkshire the son of George and Zipporah Partridge (nee Ricketts) who were married in 1858, in Farnborough. (Zipporah other spellings, Seporah and Saborah).
His mother Sarah Ann Appleton was born c1858, in Welford, Berkshire, the illegitimate daughter of Jane Appleton who married widower Mark Cannon, in 1843. Jane was widowed in 1861 and remarried in 1871. Her 2nd husband was Richard Read. (Jane’s surname recorded as Canning at time of marriage).
Sarah Ann gave birth to an illegitimate daughter, Georgina Ballard Appleton, born 1886, baptised in Chieveley in 1886. She also had an illegitimate son Albert, born c1882, in Beedon, Berkshire.
Sarah Ann married George Henry Ballard in 1887. (Geoge Ballard was a widower, his 1st wife was a widow, Ann Gibbs (nee Dry). They had a son, Wiliam George Ballard, born in 1882)
Sarah and George had the following two children:
Hannah Maria, born 1888, baptised (as Anna Maria) in 1888, in Chieveley
David, born 1889, baptised 1889, in Chieveley (died age 5 months, buried in the NRC on the 3rd February 1890).
Sarah was widowed in 1889, George Henry Ballard died aged 33, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th December.
Sarah also had a son Percy, born c1890, in Newbury
The 1891 census records Sarah (34), a Charwoman, living at 6 Chestnut Crescent, Newbury, with her children, Albert (7), Georgia (4), (Georgina) Hannah (3) and Percy (1).
(Sarah’s future husband Richard George Partridge (30) was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Farnborough Berkshire, with his parents and siblings).
Sarah Ann married George Richard Partridge in 1899 (marriage registered in Wantage, possibly married in Farnborough).
The 1901 census records Richard (42) and Sarah (42) living in Farnborough, Richard was still working as an Agricultural Labourer.
Sarah’s widowed mother Jane Read (79) was recorded living at 9 Jack Street, Newbury, Berkshire, with her grandchildren, Albert Ballard (18), a Coal Merchants Carter, Polly (14), (Georgina) and Maria (12) (Hannah Maria).
Sarah gave birth to a son, Charles Joseph, on the 17th February 1902, in Newbury. He was baptised on the 26th February 1902, at St Nicolas, Newbury.
The 1911 census records Richard (50) (as George), a Farm Labourer, Sarah (52), Charles (9), Annie Ballard (22) (Hannah Maria), Mabel Ballard (2) (illegitimate daughter of Hannah) and Jane Reed (85), living in Faccombe, Andover, Hampshire.
By 1921 Richard George and Sarah Ann were living in Colthrop Cottages, Colthrop Mills, Thatcham, Berkshire.
Sarah Ann Partridge died aged 64, in 1922, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
George Richard Partridge died aged 66, in 1924, in Thatcham, Berkshire.
