Amy, her parents and half-sisters:

Amy was baptised on the 15thFebruary 1801, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Olive Strange.

Amy’s mother Olive Honiwell was born c1760, in Berkshire. She married Henry Sheppard on the 15thApril 1781, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen, Berkshire. They had the following three daughters, baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Speen: Ann, 8th June1781, Sarah, 4th April 1783 and Susanna, 5th November 1788. Olive was widowed in 1798, Henry Sheppard was buried on the 21stFebruary, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen. Olive married William Strange on the 12thDecember 1799, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen. Olive died aged 85, in 1844, she was buried on the 9thMay, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.

Amy’s father William Strange was born c1772 (possible baptism: 1770, in Boxford, Berkshire, the son of John and Mary Strange (not proved)). William died aged 63, in 1835, he was buried on the 6thApril, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.

Amy in later life:

Amy married William Marshall on the 31stMay 1822, at St Mary Abchurch, City of London.

(William was baptised on the 27thJanuary 1799, in Speen, Berkshire, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Marshall (nee Dennis) who were married on the 17thDecember 1797, in Speen).

William and Amy had the following children, baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Speen:

Ann, 25th August 1822

Emma, 11th April 1824

Alice, 9th April 1826

William, 4th May 1828

Harriett, 18th December 1829 (died 1830, buried 7th Jan. at St Mary the Virgin, Speen)

Harriett, 9th July 1831 (died 1831, buried 13thJuly, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen)

and

Henry, born 1843, in Newbury

The 1841 census records William (40) as a Dealer in Hay, living in Stockcross, Berkshire, with Amy (40), their children Ann (15), Emma (15), Alice (15), William (13) and Amy’s mother, Olive Strange (80).

In 1851 William (51), was recorded as a Gardener, living in the Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Amey (50) and their son Henry (7).

In 1861 Amey (60) was recorded as a Monthly Nurse, at 125, Bartholomew Street, Newbury, the home of Henry Dentry (32), a Baker, Mary Dentry (32), Henry Dentry (2) and a newborn baby Dentry, not yet named, aged 3 days. Her husband William (60), a Hay Dealer, was recorded living in Pound Street, Newbury.

Amy was widowed in 1864. William died aged 65, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8thFebruary.

The 1871 census records Amy (71), a Nurse, living alone in Church Almshouses, Newbury.

The 1881 census records Amy (80), no longer working, living alone at 2, New Church Almshouses, Newbury.

Amy died aged 80, in the Newbury Workhouse, on the 9thOctober 1881. Her funeral service was held at St John the Evangelist Newbury. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14thOctober.
