Amy Eliza, her parents, siblings and early life:

Amy Eliza was born 1862, in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Tucker, (nee Whornam/Wernham) who were married in 1861 (marriage registered in Wantage)

Her father Henry was baptised in 1837, in Brimpton, Berkshire, the son of John and Charlotte Tucker (nee Bidmead) who were married in 1813, in Brimpton.

Amy Eliza’s mother Hannah was baptised in 1835, in Hampstead Norreys, Berkshire, the daughter of Richard and Phoebe Wernham/Whornam (nee Haines) who were married in 1831, in Hampstead Norreys.

Henry and Hannah also had the following children:

John Charles, 1866

Harriett Agnes 1870

Rose Hannah c1873

William Henry 1875 (died 1875)

In 1871 Amy (8) was living at in Bucklebury, Berkshire, with her parents, Henry (35), a Labourer, Hannah (35) and her siblings, Charlotte (6), John (4) and Harriet (9 months)

By 1881 Henry (45), a Labourer, Hannah (45) and their children, Anne (17), (Charlotte Annie) Agnes (10) (Harriett Agnes) and Rose (8) were living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire. Amy Eliza doesn’t seem to be recorded in the census for this year.

Fathers: Simon Lovell, a Timber Dealer and Henry Tucker, a Labourer

Witnesses: Agnes Tucker and Henry Tucker

(Charles (married as John Charles) was born on the 1^st July 1866, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire. He was baptised on the 6^th June 1869, in Silverstone, the son of Simon and Sarah Ann Lovell (nee Hayle) who were married on the 10^th October 1861, in Silverstone).

Soon after Charles and Amy married, they moved to the United States.

While living in the U.S.A. Amy Eliza gave birth to two sons, Charles Milton c1888 and William Henry, born 22^nd June 1893

By 1901 the family were back living in England. The census for this year records Charles (34), a Gas Stoker Foreman, Amy (38), Charles Milton (12) and William Henry (7), living at 2 St John’s Villa Cottages, Greenham Road, Newbury.

The 1911 census records Charles (44), as a Gas Stoker, living at the same address, with his wife Amy (48) and their son William (17) as a Brewery Clerk.

In 1921 Charles (54) was working as a Gas Works Labourer for Newbury Corporation. He was living at 1 Greenham Road, Newbury, with Amy (59), their son William (27), a Civilian Clerk, for the Royal Air Force, in Milton, Berks, their daughter-in-law, Ethel (30), (widow of their son Charles Milton, who died in 1918) and their grandson, Charles (3).

Amy Eliza died aged 63 on the 1^st February 1926, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4^th February.

Charles remarried in 1932. His 2^nd wife was a widow, Ellen Minnie Loundes (nee Charman).

(According to the 1939 Register, Ellen was born on the 11^th November 1874)

The 1939 Register records Charles (now retired) and Ellen living in Greenham Road, Newbury.

Charles died aged 74 on the 7^th February 1940. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10^th February.
