GEORGE DELL Ref: 436.
George was born in1845 (Q4 Newbury 6 201) to Henry (12064) & Martha (8574) Dell.
In 1851, aged 5, George was living with his parents in Chapel Yard, Northbrook Street & sisters, Ellen (8294) & Elizabeth. His father is a Shoemaker.
Within the next 7 years, George lost a brother, Henry (8171), & a sister, Ellen plus his mother, Martha.
In 1861 Henry & his new wife plus family were living in Bath Road, Speen. George is 15 & a House Painter. He has 3 step-siblings: William, Mary Jane (9634) & Thomas (9635). Sadly, the latter two died in 1865.
In 1870 (Q1 Newbury 2c 319), George married Hannah Whipp.
1871 saw them living at 7, Waterloo Road, Newbury. George is a Painter & Paper hanger, aged 25.
From 1881 – 1911 census records they are living at 62, Northbrook Street, Newbury. George continues his trade of Painter & Paper Hanger. They had no children but, occasionally, had lodgers.
Hannah died in 1912.
In the 1921 census George had moved to 5 Ashford Road, Swindon to live with his sister-in-law, Amelia, & husband Richard. (his surname has been mis-transcribed as Clack though it’s clearly Dell on the original record) This was where he died, aged 80, on 17 January 1926 (Q1 Swindon 5a 24). He was buried at NRC on 20 January 1926.
Probate was proved at Oxford for £667 15s 3d to Frederic Charles Hopson.
