Elizabeth Fewtrell
1880-1925
Elizabeth, her parents, siblings and early life:
Elizabeth Sarah was born in 1880, in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of George and Kezia Ruth Preston (nee Bartlett) who were married on the 15thFebruary 1880, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury.
Elizabeth’s father George was born in 1852, in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of Thomas and Alice Preston (nee Carter) who were married in 1851, in Chieveley, Berkshire.
Her mother Kezia Ruth was born in 1862, (birth registered in Kensington). She was baptised aged 12, on the 29thAugust 1875, in Ham, Wiltshire, daughter of Giles and Ann Bartlett (nee Bushell) who were married on the 20thJune 1856, in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire.
George and Kezia Ruth also had the following children:

Violet Mary, born 1889
Percival Bartlett, born 1893
Reginald, born 1896 (died 1896, buried in the NRC on the 19thDecember, birth registered in 1897, after his death)

The 1881 census records George (26), a Labourer, Kezia (18) and Elizabeth (1), living in the City, Newbury, Berkshire.
In 1891 George (37), a General Labourer, Kezia (27), a Charwoman, Elizabeth (11), Herbert (8), Clara (4) and Violet (1), were living in Coffee Tavern Cottages, Derby Road Newbury, with George’s widowed mother Alice Preston (62), a Charwoman.
In 1901 Elizabeth (20) was working as a Laundress. She was still living in Derby Road, with her grandmother Alice Perston (67). Also living with them was Alice’s granddaughter Ellen Smith (6) and a lodger.
Elizabeth in later life:
Elizabeth gave birth to an illegitimate son, Harold Percival Preston, in 1901, in Newbury.
Elizabeth married in 1902

Groom: Solomon Fewtrell, aged 27, bachelor, occupation, Plasterer, abode, Stroud Green
Bride: Elizabeth Preston, aged 22, spinster, abode, Derby Road
Fathers: Albert Fewtrell, a Tailor and George Preston, a Labourer
(Solomon was born on the 9thMarch 1877, in East Woodhay, Hampshire, the son of Albert and Ann Selina Fewtrell (nee Phillips) who were married on the 26th November 1857, at St Mary, Lambeth, Surrey)
Solomon and Elizabeth had the following children:

Alice Ellen Louise, born 1905
Arthur Sidney Herbert, born 1909
Clara Millicent, born 1910
Olive Violet, born 1912
Ronald James, born 1915
Evelyn Irene May, born 1918
Ralph Barrington, born c1921
The 1911 census records Solomon (36), a House Plasterer, Elizabeth (30), Harold (9), Edward (7), Alice (5), Herbert (2) and Clara (4 months) living at 4 Prospect Place, St John’s Road, Newbury.
Elizabeth (41) and her children, Edward (18), a Baking Powder Maker, Herbert (13), Clara (10), Olive (8), Ronald (5), May (3) and Ralph (4 months) were still living at 4 Prospect Place in 1921. Solomon (49) was recorded as a Plasterer, working for Guest & Goodall, Building Contractors, (Housing Scheme) and was boarding at Downhead Green, Downhead, Shepton Mallet, Somerset.
Elizabeth died aged 46, on the 21stOctober 1925, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 24thOctober.
The 1939 Register records Solomon as a Plasterer, living at 60 Brett Road, Willesden, Middlesex.
Solomon died aged 74, in 1951 (death registered in Ealing)
