| Transciption: | FANNY COMPTON A MELANCHOLY CASE A melancholy case of sudden illness and death has occurred during the past week which has excited a painful sensation and awakened sympathy in the town. On Sunday evening, Mrs. Compton, who has been for many years held a situation in the drapery establishment of Messrs. Penford and Son, was going to her place of worship in company with Mr. H. Midwinter, at whose house on the Wash Road she had spent the afternoon when, near St John's Church, she was taken suddenly ill, and was with difficulty conveyed into a house at hand, whence she was removed in a fly to Mr. Penford's residence in Northbrook-street. Here every means were used for her recovery under the direction of Dr. Bunny and Dr. Douglas but with no result. During the evening she entirely lost consciousness, and from that time until her death on Tuesday evening she continued in the same condition, being quite unable to take nourishment or medicine. We understand that Mrs. Compton, who was held in great esteem by her employers and by those who knew her, had for some time suffered from severe pains in the head, and had some presentiment that these would some day lead to an attack of paralysis, as has now proved to be the case.
