Charles Marshall
c1838-1875
Charles was born c1838, (birth registered in the March quarter in Pewsey) he was baptised on the 11th March 1838, in Everleigh, (aka Everley) Wiltshire, the son of William (a Labourer) and Sarah Marshall (nee Kemp), who were married on the 22nd July 1833, in Everleigh.
His father William was baptised on the 4th March 1810, in Everleigh, the son of Thomas and Sarah Marshall (nee Gale) who were married on the 27th April 1807, in Everleigh.
William and Sarah also had a daughter, Ann Maria, baptised in Everleigh, on the 11th October 1835.
By 1840 the family had moved to Andover, Hampshire.
William and Sarah also had a son, William born 16th November 1840, baptised 25th December 1840, in Andover.
The 1841 census records William (30) as an Ostler, living in Andover, Hampshire, with Sarah (30), Ann (5), Charles (3) and William (7 months).
William died aged 34, in 1843, in Andover, Hampshire.
The 1861 census records Charles (24) as an Ostler, living at the Catherine Wheel, (public house) Cheap Street, Newbury, Berkshire.

Bride: Caroline Mary Teel, full age, spinster, abode, Newbury
Fathers: William Marshall, an Ostler and Joseph Teel, a Tailor
Witnesses: William Hoskin and Hannah Hayward
(Caroline Mary was born in 1840, in Newbury, she was baptised on the 24th January 1841, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, the daughter of Joseph (a Tailor) and Charlotte Teel (nee Goodyer) who were married on the 22nd April 1827, at St Nicolas, Newbury)
Charles and Caroline had the following children baptised at St Nicolas, Newbury
Charles William, 12th July 1863
Sarah Mary, 7th February 1864
Elizabeth Ann, (dead child) 11th January 1867 (buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th January)
Charlotte Caroline, 4th October 1868
Henrietta, 2nd July 1871 (died aged 4, buried in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 20th February 1875)
Emma Ann, 5th July 1874
In 1871 Charles (33) was working as a Grocer’s Porter, living at 1 Knight’s Yard, Cheap Street, Newbury, with Caroline (31), their children, Charles (9), Sarah (8), Caroline (3), (Charlotte Caroline) Henrietta (4 months) and Caroline’s mother Charlotte Teal (72), a Laundress.
Charles died aged 36, on the 19th January 1875, at the Speen Cottage Hospital, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd January.
Caroline after her husband’s death:
Caroline remarried on the 7th March 1880 at St Nicolas, Newbury. Her 2nd husband was George Perris, a Gas Stoker. They had a daughter, Florence Annie baptised on the 14th August 1883, at St Nicolas, Newbury. Florence Annie died aged 6, on the 1st March 1889, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 6th March.
Caroline Mary Perris died aged 49, in 1891, in Reading, Berkshire
