William Seymour
1850-1924
William was born in Boxford, Berkshire. He was baptised on the 25th May 1850 at St Andrew, Boxford, the son of George and Ann Seymour (formerly Collins, nee Herbert) who were married on the 26th September 1846, at St Andrew, Boxford, Berkshire.
William’s father George was an Agricultural Labourer. He was baptised on the 7th March 1824, in Boxford Berkshire, the son of William and Hannah Seymour (nee Ballard) who were married on the 28th December 1821, in Chieveley, Berkshire. George died aged 79 in 1900, he was buried on the 22nd May, at St Andrew, Boxford.
His mother Ann(e) Herbert was baptised on the 14th July 1816, at St Andrew, Boxford, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Herbert (nee King) who were married on the 21st June 1802, in Boxford. Ann had an illegitimate daughter Hannah Herbert, baptised in 1838 in Boxford. Ann married Daniel Collins on the 12th October 1842, at St Andrew, Boxford. They had a daughter Mary Ann Collins, baptised in Boxford in 1844. Ann was widowed in 1846. Daniel died aged 29, he was buried on the 22nd May, at St Andrew, Boxford. Ann Seymour died aged 69 in 1886, she was buried on the 27th May, at St Andrew, Boxford.
George and Ann also had the following children baptised in Boxford:
Sarah Elizabeth, baptised 12th March 1848
John, baptised 13th March 1853
Emma, baptised 29th July in 1855 (as Emma Sophia)
In 1851 William (11 months) was living in the village of Boxford, Berkshire, with his father George (27), his mother Ann (30), his half-sisters, Hannah Herbert (12) and Mary Ann Collins (7) and his sister Sarah (3).
The 1861 census records William (10), living in Boxford, with his father George (38), his mother Ann (43), his sister Jemima (5) and his half-sisters, Hannah Herbert (22) and Mary Ann Collins (17).
The 1891 census records William (40) as a Private in the Royal Berks Reg. living with his widowed father George (68), in Row Hedge Cottages, Boxford

Bride: Harriet Partridge, aged 47, widow, abode, Boxford
Fathers: George Seymour and James Chamberlain, both Labourers
Witnesses: William Fidler and Eliza Fidler
(Harriet was born c1853 in Charlton, Berkshire. She is recorded as Harriet Lindsay/Lindsey in early census records, the daughter of Amy/Ann and John Lindsay. Harriet married (as Harriet Lindsay) Alfred Partridge in 1880 (marriage registered in Wantage). She was widowed in 1899)
The 1901 census records William (50) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in a cottage in Boxford with Harriet (48).
By 1911 they were living in North Heath, Leckhampstead /Winterbourne, Berkshire. William was recorded as a Farm Labourer in the census for this year.
Harriet died aged 63 in 1916. She was buried on the 12th December, at St James the Less, Winterbourne.
The 1921 census records William (71) as an inmate in the Newbury Workhouse.
He died aged 75 in 1924 and was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th January.
