Ann, her parents, siblings and early life:

Ann was born in Ecchinswell, Hampshire, she was baptised on the 19th August 1838 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, the daughter of John Salter and Sarah Hunt (nee Butler) who were married on the 28th November 1822, in Kingsclere.

John Salter and Sarah also had the following children (baptised in Kingsclere):

George, baptised 4th January 1824

Elizabeth, baptised 16th March 1828

David, born c1830

Hannah, baptised 3rd June 1832

Daniel, baptised 12th October 1834

Jane, born c1836

John, baptised 18th October 1840

Samuel, baptised 15th January 1843

Sarah, baptised 31st May 1846

In 1841 Ann (3) was living in Ecchinswell, with her father John (45), an Agricultural Labourer, her mother Sarah (35) and her siblings, Elizabeth (13), David (11), Hannah (9), Daniel (7), Jane (5) and John (9 months).

In 1851 Ann (11) was living in Bushnells, Kingsclere, Hampshire with her father Salter Hunt (57), Sarah (47), David (20), Hannah (18), Jane (13), John (9), Samuel (7) and Sarah (4)

Groom: George White, full age, bachelor, occupation, Labourer, abode, Ecchinswell

Bride: Ann Hunt, aged 19, spinster, abode, Ecchinswell

Fathers: James White and John Salter Hunt, both Labourers

(George was baptised in 1834, in Speen, Berkshire, the son of James and Ann White (nee Povey) who were married on the 4th January 1834, in Speen)

George and Ann had the following children (births registered in Kingsclere):

Mary Ann, born 1858

Lucy, born 1860

Walter, born 1863

Rosina, born 1865

The 1861 census records George (26) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Fish Pond Cottage, Kingsclere, Hampshire, with Ann (23) and their children, Daniel (4), Mary Ann (2) and Lucy (4 months)

George died aged 32, on the 17th March 1866, in Stockcross, Berkshire.

Ann gave birth to a daughter, Clara, born in Stockcross, in 1868 and a son William, born c1871 in Newbury, Berkshire.

In 1871 Ann (35) was recorded as a Charwoman, living in the Newbury Workhouse, her children Lucy (10), Walter (7), Rosina (4), Clara (2) and William (1), (recorded as Arthur William) were also recorded living in the Workhouse.

Ann remarried in 1873. Her 2nd husband was William Haines.

(William was born in Thatcham Berkshire c1818. He was a widower. He married Mary Ann Palmer in 1844. They had the following children: John c1846, Elizabeth c1848, Sarah 1850, George c1855, Charles Henry 1857, Tom 1859, William 1862 and Edgar James 1864. William was widowed in 1866)

William and Ann had the following children:

Ernest, 1880

The 1881 census records William (65) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Alton Place, Newbury, with Ann (44), Lucy White (21), a General Servant, Walter White (19), an Agricultural Labourer, Clara White (12), William White (10), Giles Haines (8), Emily Haines (6), Edward Haines (3), Robert Haines (2) and Ernest Haines (6 months).

William died aged 74 in 1888, in Speen, Berkshire, he was buried on the 23rd February, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.

The 1891 census records Ann (54) as a Charwoman, living at 7 Kennet Place, Newbury, with her children, Giles (17), Edward (15) and Robert (13) all recorded as Errand Boys.

In 1901 Ann (66) was recorded, living alone at 1, Vine Cottages, Pembroke Road, Newbury

The 1911 census records Ann (73) as an Almshouse Pensioner, living alone at Hunt’s Almshouses, West Mills, Newbury.

Ann died aged 81 in the Newbury Infirmary in 1919, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5th March.
