Sarah Daw

Sarah was baptised on the 4th August 1833 at St Paul, Portland Square, Bristol, the daughter of Samuel (a Tanner) and Elizabeth Daw (nee Hitchcock) who were married at St Paul, Portland Square on the 9th August 1832. (Samuel’s surname recorded as Doe on the marriage record)

Samuel and Elizabeth also had the following children:

Elizabeth Dawe baptised 14th June 1835 at Cheriton Filzpaine Devon (dad a Labourer)

Ann Dawe baptised 12th March 1837 at Cheriton Fitzpaine Devon

Samuel Daw born 1839 in Devon

Jane Daw born c1842 in Devon

Emma born 1844 in Devon

In 1841 Sarah (7) was living in East Wonford, Heavitree, Devon with her grandparents John (51), a Tanner and Mildred (58) Hichcock.

Her parents Samuel (35), a Tanner and Elizabeth (30) and her siblings Elizabeth (6), Ann (4) and Samuel (1) were living in Cheriton Fitzpaine, Devon.

Sarah’s father died aged 42 in 1845 (death registered in Tiverton Devon)

Sarah (17) was still living with her grandparents in Heavitree in 1851, she was recorded working as a Servant.

The 1861 census records Sarah (26) as a House Servant for a Rowland Robbins, a Fruiterer, and his family, in Islington. Middlesex.

Sarah (36) was working as a Housemaid for a John Taylor, a Cocoa and Chocolate Manufacturer and his family in Leinster Gardens, Paddington, in 1871.

The 1911 census records Sarah (77) living at 4 Bourne Terrace, Wash Common, Newbury Berkshire. Her widowed sister Emma Prior (65) and her widowed niece, Emma Sanders (31) were recorded living with her.

Sarah died aged 84 in 1918, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th January.
