William Henry Lovell
1893-1970
William, his parents, brother and early life:
William Henry’s father Charles (aka John Charles) was born on the 1st July 1866, in Silverstone, Northamptonshire. He was baptised as Charles on the 6th June 1869 (with his brother Frederick Simon) the son of Simon and Sarah Ann Lovell (nee Hayle) who were married on the 10th October 1861, in Silverstone.
His mother Amy Eliza was born 1862, in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, the daughter of Henry and Hannah Tucker (nee Whornam/Wernham) who were married in 1861 (marriage registered in Wantage)
William’s parents married on the 21st January 1888, at St John the Evangelist, Newbury, Berkshire. (Charles was recorded as John Charles)
Soon after they married, they moved to the United States.
While living in the U.S.A. Amy Eliza gave birth to two sons, Charles Milton c1888 and William Henry was born 22nd June 1893
By 1901 the family were back living in England. The census for this year records Charles (34), a Gas Stoker Foreman, Amy (38), Charles Milton (12) and William Henry (7), living at 2 St John’s Villa Cottages, Greenham Road, Newbury.
The 1911 census records William (17) as a Brewery Clerk, living at the same address, with his parents Charles (44), a Gas Stoker and Amy (48).
In 1921 Charles (54) was working as a Gas Works Labourer for Newbury Corporation. He was living at 1 Greenham Road, Newbury, with Amy (59), their son William (27), a Civilian Clerk, for the Royal Air Force, in Milton, Berks, their daughter-in-law, Ethel (30), (widow of their son Charles Milton, died 1918) and their grandson, Charles (3).

(Lenna May was born on the 14th March 1895, in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Harriet Spracklen (nee Samuels) who were married in 1894 (marriage registered in Newbury)
The Electoral Registers 1921-1935 records William living in Greenham Road, Newbury. By 1926 they record him living at 26 Gloucester Road, Newbury.
William and Lenna had a daughter, Audrey Lenna, born on the 23rd March 1924, in Newbury.
The 1939 Register records William as a Clerk to a Cardboard Box Manufacturer living at 26 Gloucester Road, Newbury, with Lenna and their daughter Audrey Lenna.
William continued to live at 26 Gloucester Road, Newbury until his death. He died aged 76, on the 23rd January 1970. William was cremated and his ashes were laid in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30th January.
Lenna May died aged 85, in the Newbury District Hospital, on the 27th November 1980. She was also cremated and her ashes were laid in the Newtown Road Cemetery with her husband.
Also recorded on the same Memorial Inscription as William Henry are Lenna, her parents, John and Harriet (aka Dolly) Spracklen, her sister Mabel Mildred Spracklen and her brother William John Spracklen.
