Biographical Information

The articles below contain information about unnamed Paine.

Unnamed Paine

            Unnamed Paine (1900 – 1900)

A stillborn child was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 21 November 1900. The only details recorded, in the accounts ledger, was that it was a stillborn child of Mrs Paine.

There was no announcement in the Newbury Weekly News regarding the burial, which was standard at the time.

In the 1901 census taken 5 months after the burial the only Mrs Paine of child bearing age living in Newbury was Ellen Elizabeth Paine, wife of Charles Thomas Paine. In the subsequent 1911 census which asked about number of children born to wives it was recorded that Ellen had only one child born alive and the child was still living in 1911. This was the correct way to complete the census if there had been a stillborn child, but some families did include details of still born children in 1911.

If the parents were Charles Thomas and Ellen Elizabeth Paine then Charles was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery and further details can be found under his name.
