Unknown (stillborn) Allen

1915-1915

This stillborn child’s parents were Horace Henry and Alice Allen (nee Richmond) who were married in 1910 (marriage registered in Newbury)

The family:

Father: Horace Henry Allen was born on the 5th November 1891, he was baptised on the 6th December 1891, at St Nicolas Church Newbury, the son of Henry (a Porter) and Martha Allen (nee Smith) of Smith’s Buildings, Newbury. Henry and Martha were married on the 22nd January 1889, at St Nicolas, Newbury.

Mother: Alice Maria Richmond was born in 1884, in Newbury, Berkshire (possibly the illegitimate daughter of Lucy Richmond, not proved).

Alice and Horace also had the following children (all births registered in Newbury):
Albert Henry, 1911

Reginald Frank, 1912

Christina May, c1914

Horace Francis Leslie, 1918

Arthur Ronald Cook Allen, 1921 (Possibly not the son of Horace. Possibly the son Arthur Cook recorded in the 1921 census below)

The 1911 census records Alice (26) and Horace (20), a Chauffeur, living at 20 Jack Street, Newbury.

The 1921 records Allice aged (35) and her son Leslie aged (3), (Horace Francis Leslie) living at 2 Marsh Street, Newbury, with an Arthur Cook aged (33). Alice’s children Christina (7) and Albert (9) were recorded as inmates in the Newbury Workhouse. Her son Reginald (8) was living with his grandparents Henry and Martha Allen, at 2 Taylor’s Cottages, Northbrook Street, Newbury.

Alice died aged 39 in 1922. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 11th July.

The 1939 Register records Horace, a General Labourer, as a patient in the Berkshire Mental Hospital in Wallingford, Berkshire. He died aged 51 in 1944, in Wallingford.
