John Edward Pullin
c1825-1899
John Edward, his parents, siblings and early life:
John Edward was a Baker. He was baptised on the 3rd January 1825, in Kintbury, Berkshire, the son of John and Sarah Maria Pullen (nee Freebody) who were married on the 7th April 1823, at St Mary, Reading, Berkshire. (John Pullin was from Kintbury, witnesses: Thomas and Ann Freebody and Elizabeth Pullin)
John’s father, John was a Butcher. He was baptised in 1789, in Kintbury, the son of John and Sarah Pullen (nee Coxhead) who were married in 1784, in Kintbury. John died aged 61 in 1848, in Cookham, Berkshire.
John’s mother Sarah Maria was baptised on the 7th December c1803, in Caversham, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Ann Freebody (nee Yates) who were married on the 26th October 1800, at St Lawrence, Stroud, Gloucestershire (William was from Caversham). Sarah Maria Pullin died aged 75, in Reading, Berkshire.
John and Sarah Maria also had the following children:
Caroline Amelia Pullin, baptised 29th October 1826, in Kintbury, Berkshire
William Frederick Pullin, baptised 20th July 1828, in Cookham, Berkshire
Louisa Maria Pullin, baptised 18th July 1833 in Bray, Berkshire
Isabella Lydia Pullen, 1835, baptised 1st September 1835, at St Nicolas, Newbury
Alfred Augustus Pullen, baptised 1st April 1839, at St Mary (the Minster) Reading. (Died 1839 in Reading)
(Their father John was recorded as a Butcher on all the baptism records)
and
Sarah Jane Pullin, born 1843, in Burnham Buckinghamshire
Thomas Alfred Pullin, born 1846, in Chalvey, Buckinghamshire

Date: 21st January 1849
Groom: John Pullin aged 24
Bride: Elizabeth Bowley, aged 21
Fathers: John Pullin and Thomas Bowley
(Elizabeth was baptised in 1827 in Vernham Dean, Hampshire, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Bowley (nee Brooks) who were married in 1820, in Vernham Dean)
John Edward and Elizabeth had the following two children:
Sarah Maria Pullin, born 1849, baptised 3rd June 1849, in Vernham Dean.
Harriet Pullen, born 1851, in Greenham, Berkshire.
In 1851 John Edward (26) was living in Stroud Green, Greenham, Berkshire, with Elizabeth (23) and their daughter Sarah Maria (1).
The 1861 census records John (36), Elizabeth (34), Sarah Maria (11) and Harriet (9), living in Stroud Green, Greenham
By 1871 John (46), Elizabeth (44) and Sarah (21), a Dressmaker, were living at 17, Alton Place, Newbury.
The 1881 census also records John (56) and Elizabeth (54), living in Alton Place.
By 1891 John (66) and Elizabeth (63) were living in East View Villas, Greenham.
John died aged 74, on the 11th March 1899. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 14th March.
