Henry Tucker
c1837-1896
Henry, his parents, siblings and early life:
Henry was baptised on the 22nd January 1837 at St Peter, Brimpton, Berkshire, the son of John and Charlotte Tucker (nee Bidmead) who were married on the 29th May 1813, in Brimpton.
Henry’s father John was born c1786. He died in 1843 and was buried on the 19th March, at St Peter, Brimpton.
His mother Charlotte Bidmead was baptised in 1793, in Brimpton, the daughter of John and Hannah Bidmead (nee Barnett) who were married in Brimpton, in 1789. Charlotte died aged 50, in 1843, she was buried on the 24th December, at St Peter, Brimpton.
John and Charlotte also had the following children baptised at St Peter, Brimpton:
Harriet, 1814
Ann, 1817 (died aged 2 months, buried 21st September 1817, at St Peter, Brimpton)
Sarah, 1818 (died aged 8 months, buried 16th July 1819, at St Peter, Brimpton)
William, 1820
John, 1823
Eliza, 1827
George, 1833
Arthur, 1834
In 1841 Henry (4) was recorded living in Brimpton, with his father John (55), an Agricultural Labourer, his mother Charlotte (45), his sister Eliza (14) and his brother George (8).
The 1851 census records Henry (15) as an Agricultural Labourer. He was living in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire, with his married sister Eliza Bosh(i)er (25), his brother-in-law William, and their children, Sarah Ann (2) and George (1 month).
In 1861 Henry (25) was still working as an Agricultural Labourer and was living in Hampstead Norris (now lodging with a John Moss (27) and his family). Living next door was his future wife Hannah Whornam (24), (Wernham) a Dressmaker and her family.
Henry in later life:
Henry married Hannah Wernham in 1861 (marriage registered in Wantage)
Henry and Hannah had the following children:
Amy Eliza, born 1862, in Hampstead Norris
Charlotte Annie, 1864, in Hampstead Norris
John Charles, 1866, in Hampstead Norris
Harriet Agnes, 1870, in Hampstead Norris
Rose Hannah, c1873, in Brimpton
In 1871 Henry (35), a Labourer, Hannah (35,) Amy (8), Charlotte (6), John (4) and Harriet (9 months), were recorded living at Birch Farm, Berkshire (situated in Frilsham, recorded as being in Bucklebury in this census)
The 1881 census records Henry (43), a Labourer, Hannah (45), Ann (17), a Servant (Charlotte Annie) Agnes (10) (Harriet Agnes) and Rose (8), living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire.
In 1891 Henry (mistakenly recorded aged 44), was working as a Corn Porter, he was living in St Mary’s Hill, Greenham, Newbury, with Hannah (mistakenly recorded aged 46).
Henry died aged 59, on the 4th June 1896. His funeral service was held at St John the Evangelist Newbury. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th June.
In 1901 Hannah (76), was living at 76 Cheap Street, Newbury, with three boarders. (Surname recorded as Jucker on ancestry)
Hannah died aged 71, on the 3rd April 1907, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th April, with Henry.
