Mary Ann Mengham
c1833-1892
Mary Ann Mingham was baptised on the 9th June 1833, in Bedhampton, Hampshire, the daughter of Joseph (a Labourer) and Hannah Mengham (nee Baily) who were married on the 1st August 1824, at St Thomas, Bedhampton.
Her father Joseph was baptised in 1799, in Bedhampton, the son of Joseph and Ann Mingham. Joseph died aged 74 in 1873, in Bedhampton
Her mother Hannah was baptised in 1804, in Bedhampton, the daughter of James and Hannah Bailey. Hannah died aged 63 in 1868, in Bedhampton
Joseph and Hannah also had the following children baptised in Bedhampton
William Bartlett Mengham, 25th September 1826
James Joseph Mangham, 15th February 1829
Henry Clements Mingham, 4th September 1831
Martha Elizabeth Mingham, 1st November 1835
Harriet Cooper Mingham, 23rd December 1838
George John Mengham, 16th May 1841
Charles Thomas Mingham, 4th June 1843
and
Elizabeth Hannah Mengham born 1845
Louisa, born c1849
In 1851 Mary (18) was working as a Domestic Servant, she was living in Bedhampton, with her father, Joseph (52), a General Labourer & Grocer, her mother Hannah (46), a Seamstress, her brothers, William (24), James (22), both Millers, George (9), Charles (7), her sisters, Martha (15), a Domestic Servant, Harriet (12), Elizabeth (5) and Louisa (2).
The 1861 census records Mary (28) as a House Servant, working for a Charles Brown (71), a Retired Royal Navy Commander and his family, in London Road, Farlington, Hampshire.
In 1871 Mary (37), a Housekeeper, was back living in Bedhampton, with her widowed father Joseph (72), a Groom & Gardener (Domestic Servant) and her brother William (44), an unemployed General Labourer.
In 1891 Mary (58) was working as a General Servant, at The Nook, Pelican Road, Newbury, Berkshire, for an Elizabeth Basing (76), who was blind.
Mary Ann died aged 59, in 1892. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th June.
