Charles J. Moth
1892-1892
Charles was born in Newbury, Berkshire, (birth registered in the March quarter 1892, no christian name recorded) the son of Charles John and Mary Jane Moth (nee Perry) who were married in 1879 (marriage registered in Newbury). He died aged 17 days and was buried as Charles J. Moth, in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 26th February 1892
Charles’s family:
His father Charles John was born 1856, in Newbury Berkshire. He was baptised on the 28th December 1862 in Burghclere, Hampshire, the son of John and Harriet Moth, (nee Belcher) who were married in 1854 (marriage registered in Newbury)
His mother Mary Jane was born in 1858 in Collingbourne, Kingston, Wiltshire. She was baptised on the 20th June 1858, in Collingbourne Kingston, the daughter of Alfred (aka Arthur) and Eliza Perry (nee Dance) who were married on the 20th April 1851, in Collingbourne Kingston
His siblings were:
Edith Mary, 1880 (died aged 18, on the 18th March 1899, buried in the NRC on the 22nd March)
Frederick Charles, c1882 (died aged 2 years 5 months in 1884, buried in the NRC on the 7th June)
William, 1883
Arthur, c1886
Elizabeth, 1887
George, c1890
Henry, 1893
Albert Francis, 1895 (died aged 1 year and 5 months in 1897, buried in the NRC on the 7th April)

In 1881, Charles (24), a Labourer, Mary (24) and their daughter Edith (7 months) were living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, Berkshire.
The 1891 census records Charles (34) as a Brewer’s Labourer, living at 3 Coombe View, Enborne Road, Newbury, with Mary (34) and their children, Edith Mary (10), William (7), Arthur (5), Elizabeth (3) and George (1)
In 1901 Charles (44), a Brewer’s Labourer, Mary (43) and their children, William (17), a General Labourer, Arthur (15), a Butcher’s Errand Boy, Elizabeth (13), a Domestic Nursemaid, George (11), Henry (8) and Charles (2), were recorded living at 6 Sarum Cottages, Enborne Road, Newbury.
The 1911 census records Charles (54) as a Garden Labourer, living at 6 Sarum Cottages, with Mary (53) and their children, George (21), a Porter, Henry (17), a Chemist’s Porter and Charles (13).
Mary Jane died aged 63, on the 4th November 1920, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th November.
The 1921 register records Charles aged 64 years 6 months, working as a Market Garden Labourer for Whitington & Son, Market Gardeners. He was still living in Sarum Cottages.
Charles died aged 76 on the 6th April 1933, at 214 Newtown Road, Newbury. (The former workhouse and now Sandleford Hospital) He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 10th April.
