Louisa, her parents, siblings and early life:

Louisa was born in 1847, in Thatcham, Berkshire. She was baptised on the 17th October 1847, in Thatcham, the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth New (nee Randall) who were married in 1842 (see below for marriage details)

Louisa’s father Henry was an Agricultural Labourer. He was born on the 23rd April 1820, in Wolverton Common, Hampshire. Henry was baptised on the 17th May 1820, in Kingsclere, Hampshire, the son of Jesse and Elizabeth New (nee Lawrence Jewell) who were married on the 31st May 1819, in Kingsclere, Hampshire. (Jesse was recorded as Joshua on the marriage record).

Louisa’s mother Elizabeth was born c1823, in Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of William and Sarah Randall (nee Hill) who were married in 1817, in Kintbury, Berkshire. (Possible baptism: 1823, Chilton, Berkshire, daughter of William and Sarah Randal).

Henry and Elizabeth’s marriage details:

Place: St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire

Date: 3rd January 1842

Groom: Henry New, full age, bachelor, occupation, Labourer, abode, Kintbury

Bride: Elizabeth Randall, aged 19, spinster, abode, Kintbury

Fathers: William Randall and Joshua New, both Labourers

Witnesses: John Mills and Caroline Mills

 

Henry and Elizabeth also had the following children:

The 1851 census records Louisa (3) living in Newtown, Berkshire, with her father Henry (30), her mother Elizabeth (26) and her sisters, Mary (6) and Rosana (9 months) (name recorded as Rosehannah)

In 1861 Henry (40), Elizabeth (36) and their children, Mary (16), Louisa (13), both Servants, Rosanna (11), William (5) and Jesse (2), were recorded living in Chapel Street, Thatcham, Berkshire (near “The Plough”)

By 1871 Louisa (22) was working as a Domestic Servant, in Greenham Mills, Greenham, Berkshire, for a Richard Gibbins (30), a Tanner and his family.

Louisa in later life:

Louisa married William Naylor on the 22nd November 1873, in Thatcham, Berkshire.

(William was born in 1843, he was baptised on the 12th March 1843, in Thatcham, Berkshire, the son of John and Elizabeth Nailor (nee Powell) who were married in 1841, marriage registered in Bradfield)

William and Louisa had the following children:

Elizabeth Louisa Nailor, c1877

Annie Nailer, 1880 (died aged 2 months, in 1880, buried 24th July, at St Mary, Greenham)

Ernest Nailor, c1882

The 1881 census records William Nailer (38) as a Labourer, living in Harris Cottages, Greenham, with Lousia (34) and their children, William (6) and Elizabeth (4).

Louisa was widowed in 1883. William Nailor died aged 40, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 15th December.

The 1891 census records Louisa (39) as a Laundress, living in Greenham Mills, Greenham, with her children, William (16), an Errand Boy, Eliza (14), Ernest (9) and a boarder, Ada Page (1). Louisa’s mother Eliza New (66) was also recorded living in the household and was also recorded as a Laundress. (Surname recorded as Nailos on ancestry)

Louisa Naylor died aged 40, in 1891, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 28th August 1891.
