Brian Alan Collins (1935 – 1935)
William Charles Collins was born on 28 February 1898 in Newbury, the son of Samuel John and Louisa Batrice, nee Westall, Collins.
William married Sarah Savory on 20 September 1920 in Newbury. Sarah was born in 1896 in Armagh, Ireland. In the 1921 census they were living with William’s parents at 19 Camp Close in Newbury and William was a fishmonger’s assistant. Sarah died on 14 February 1924 and was buried at Shaw Cemetery on 18 February. William then remarried in 1926 to a widow Edith Ellen Cater, nee Canning.
William and Edith had five children, Beryl Doreen (1927), Desmond William Charles (1929), Myrtle Audrey (1930), Pamela (1932) and Brian Alan (1935). They were all born in Newbury.
Sadly, the youngest child Brian died aged only 5 months in November 1935 and he was buried at Newtown Road Cemetery on 6 November 1935. The family were living in Camp Close in Newbury at that time.
William and Edith Ellen continued to live in Newbury and in September 1939 were living at 19 Camp Close with their three daughters and William was a fish monger’s assistant. Edith died 13 July 1963 and was buried on 19 July at Shaw Cemetery. William died in Newbury in 1968.
