Emily Jordan Allen
1872-1935
Emily, her parents, siblings and early life:
Emily was born in Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Alfred and Martha Allen (nee Hopkins) who were married on the 1st January 1866 in Ham, Wiltshire.
Her father Alfred was born in 1842 in Newbury, Berkshire, the son of William and Sarah Allen (nee Jordan) who were married on the 23rd October 1820, at St Mary, Speen, Berkshire. Alfred died aged 86 in 1929, on the 19th April 1929. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 22nd April.
Her mother Martha was baptised in 1839 in Inkpen, Berkshire, the daughter of George and Sarah Hopkins (nee Jackson) who were married in 1836, in Inkpen. Martha died aged 59, on the 25th August 1898. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th August
Alfred and Martha also had the following children:

Agnes Sarah, 1868 (died aged 9, on the 14th July 1877, buried in the NRC on the 15th July)

The 1881 census records Alfred (38) a Master Plumber, employing 2 men and 1 boy, living in West Street, Newbury, with Martha (41), Alfred (14), Elizabeth (10), Emily (8), Charles (6) and Edwin (2).
In 1891 Charles (16) was recorded as a Decorator’s Apprentice, living at home, in West Street, with his father Alfred (48), a Decorator, his mother (51) and his siblings, Elizabeth (20), a Dressmaker, Emily (18), a Dressmaker, Edwin (12) and William (9).
Emily in later life:
In 1901 Emily (28) was recorded working as a Hospital Nurse, at the Royal Portsmouth Hospital, Charitable Institution, Fitzherbert Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire.
The 1911 census records Emily (38) as a Sick Nurse, visiting her brother Edwin Hopkins Allen and his wife Lucy, at 9 Ravenswood Road, Walthamstow, Essex.
The 1930 Newbury Electoral Register records Emily living at 33 Kingsbridge Road Newbury with Wilfred Elvin J. and Florence Elizabeth Mackrell.
The 1931 Cheltenham, Gloucestershire Electoral Register records her living at Ivy Cottage, Church Street, Cheltenham, with Nora Geraldine Methold and Lilian Annie Smith.
Emily died aged 63 on the 5th June 1935 at the Ingleside Nursing Home, Newbury. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 8th June.
