Alice was born in Eddington, (near Hungerford) Berkshire, the daughter of Albert and Mary Farr (nee Allen) who were married on the 20th October 1864, in Ramsbury, Wiltshire.

Her father Albert was baptised on the 19th February 1837 in Aldbourne, Wiltshire, the son of Henry (a Labourer) and Patience Farr (nee Rushan/Rusham/Rushon/Rushen) who were married on the 6th April 1836, in Inkpen, Berkshire.

Her mother Mary was baptised on the 20th July 1834, at St Mary Bourne, Hampshire, the daughter of Thomas and Lucy Allen (nee Gamester) who were married on the 30th October 1824, at St Mary Bourne.

Alice had two sisters, Emily, born 1865 in Speen, Berkshire and Mary, born 1872 in Beddington, Surrey.

In 1871 Alice’s father Albert (34) was working as a Coachman, he was living at 1, Waddon Court Cottages, Waddon, Croydon, Surrey, with Mary (36), Emily (5) and Alice (3).

In 1881 Alice (13) was working as a Kitchen Servant, in Oxford Road, Speenhamland, Berkshire, for a widow, Charlotte Mills (46). Her father Albert (44), a Gardener was living in Backway, Speen, Berkshire, with her mother Mary (46), her sisters, Emily (15), a General Servant and Mary (8) and an orphan, Annie Ralph (12).

The 1891 census records Alice (23) as a Parlourmaid, living at 8 Eastbourne Terrace, Pelican Road, Newbury, with her parents Albert (54), a Gardener (not domestic) and Mary (56).

In 1901 Alice (33) was living at, 1, Hampton Cottages, Newbury with her parents Albert (64), now a Domestic Gardener and Mary (66) and two boarders.

Alice’s mother Mary died aged 70, on the 25th August 1904, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 29th August.

The 1911 census records Albert (74) as formerly a Groom and Gardener, living at 4, Bartholomew Almshouses, Argyle Road, Newbury. Alice (44), a Seamstress, was still living with him.

Alice’s father Albert died aged 77, on the 24th February 1914, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with Mary, on the 27th February.

In the 1920’s Alice was living in Craven Road, Newbury.

The 1921 census records Alice (53) as a visitor at Shaw Hill Cottage, Addington, Kent, the home of her married sister Mary Barnden (48) and her family.

By 1930 Alice was living at 21 St John’s Road, Newbury, with her widowed sister Emily Leader.

Alice died aged 67, on the 5th April 1935. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery with her parents on the 10th April.
