George Nailor c1814-1887

George Nailor

c1814-1887

George Naylor was baptised on the 6th February 1814, in Midgham, Berkshire, the son of Francis (a Labourer) and Mary Nailer/Nailor (nee Rob(b)ins) who were married on the 26th October 1791, in Thatcham, Berkshire.

George’s father Francis Cooper Nailor was baptised in 1767, in Stanford Dingley, Berkshire, the son of John and Hannah Nailor. Francis Nailor died aged 81, in 1848, he was buried on the 29th November, at St Matthew, Midgham.

His mother Mary was born c1773 (possible baptism in Thatcham, daughter of Henry and Mary Robbins. NOT PROVED). Mary died aged 76, in 1847, she was buried on the 7th November, at St Matthw, Midgham

Francis and Mary also had the following children:

Francis Cooper Nailor, baptised 1792, in Woolhampton

John Nailor, baptised in 1794, in Woolhampton

Charles Nailor, baptised in 1797, in Woolhampton

Sarah Naylor, baptised in 1799, in Midgham

Hannah Nailor baptised in 1802, in Midgham

Eliza Nailor, baptised in 1815, in Midgham

Catherine, born c1816 (no baptism found)

In 1841 Francis (70), an Agricultural Labourer, Mary (65), George (mistakenly recorded aged 20) and an Emma Nailor (7), were recorded living in Channel’s Green, Midgham, Berkshire.

The 1851 census records George (38) as an Agricultural Labourer, living in Midgham. (Surname recorded as Naslor on ancestry)

In both the 1861and 1871 census records, Geroge has been recorded living in Channel’s Green, Midgham with his married sister Catherine Nightingale and her family. In 1861 he was recorded as a Labourer and has been mistakenly transcribed as George Nightingale. In 1871 he was recorded as an Agricultural Labourer and has been mistakenly transcribed George Wailes (both images record his surname Nailor)

George died aged 76, on the 17th November 1887, in the Newbury Workhouse. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 21st November.
