EMILY GOULD
DEATH OF MRS. EDWARD GOULD
A FORMER MAYORESS
We regret to announce the death of Mrs. Gould, widow of the late Alderman Gould, J.P., which occurred on Sunday. The deceased lady was daughter of the late Mr. John White Hobbs, of Marlborough. She married Mr. Edward Gould in 1877, and they both lived to celebrate their golden wedding in 1927. Mrs. Gould was a great help to her husband in his civic duties, especially during his Mayoralty in 1898.
The funeral took place yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon. The first part of the service was held in the Parish Church, and was attended by a large number of friends. The Rector (the Rev. W. L. Cooper) officiated, Mr. Bernard Ramsey being at the organ. The hymns, “Peace, perfect peace” and “Abide with me” were sung. The interment was in the Old Cemetery, Mrs. Gould’s remains being laid in the same grave as those of her late husband.
The mourners were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Gould (son and daughter-in-law), Mrs. Windley (daughter), Mr. John Gould (grandson), and Mrs. Milsom (an old friend). Messrs. P. H. Forge and W. Windley, and other relatives and friends were unable to be present owing to illness.
Wreaths and flowers were sent by the following: In sweetest memory from all her Children and Grandchildren; Ernest, Minnie and Harry (Southend); Gus and family (Southend); Ernest, Nellie and family (Reading); Nieces and Nephews at Hanwell and Ealing; Mrs. Hobbs (sister-in-law), Anerley; (there then follows a list of the friends who sent flowers).
