Christiana Sutton was the daughter of William, an agricultural labourer, & Mary Sopp & grew up where she was born in Chilton Folliatt, Wiltshire. Her father was a Shepherd &, when he died, her mother had to enter Hungerford Workhouse until she went to live with Christiana & husband in Newbury, Christiana left home to become a Housemaid to a Bank Clerk in High St East, Hungerford. She married Henry Sutton in 1861. Henry was from Poplar, Middlesex, born to John, a Sailor & steward, & Johanna from Pewsey. John died when Henry was very young and his widowed mother returned to Pewsey by 1841 to work as a Dressmaker. Henry, the eldest child aged 6 appears to be living in a nearby village with the Bennett's, farmers. By 1851 he was living with & Apprenticed to a Master Tailor in Woodbrough, Wiltshire. In the 1861 census he was a Tailor, living with his Dressmaker mother in High St, Pewsey. After marriage, Henry & Christianna lived at 1, Waterloo Place. & had 2 children by which time Henry had advanced to Journeyman Tailor. Henry's mother lived with them before she died in 1872. By 1891, they had moved to nearby 18 Carnarvon Rd, where Christiana died. Henry died at 2 Brighton Terrace, West St, Newbury, Sources: NRC Bur Recd; Ancestry records.
