THOMAS CULLUM
DEATH OF AN AGED ALMSMAN – Mr Thomas Cullum an inmate of the Church Almshouses died early on Thursday morning at the venerable age of 93. He was believed to be the oldest man in the town. He was born at Ramsbury and came to Newbury when he was 22 years of age.
For thirty years he was country foreman to Messrs Elliott and Balding, builders of the London road, and for twenty three years worked as a bricklayer for the late Alderman Adey. He has been an almsman for fifteen years. The funeral took place at the Cemetery on Monday, the Rev. Marsh Kirkby officiating, and Mr Henry Cullum, the only son, being the chief mourner. |
