MARY ANN WICKENS
WASH COMMON
THE LATE MISS MARY ANN WICKENS – On Sunday last reference was made in his sermon by Mr J Palmer on Sunday morning of the late Miss Mary Ann Wickens, formerly of the Post Office who was buried in the Newbury Cemetery last week. He said “One day last week I stood by the grave of one who used to teach in this Sunday School – a member of a Wash Common family who are deservedly respected, and from whom I have received kindness, and experienced hospitality for a considerable time. Several I think will regret the breaking up of this family, owing to advancing years, and death.
“Earth to earth and dust to dust
Calmly now the words we say
Leaving her to sleep in trust
Until the Resurrection-day
Father in thy gracious keeping,
Leave we now thy servant sleeping”
