Richard Prestoe was the son of a Millwright. He was born in Andover but lived in 5 then 6 Pleasant Place, St John's Rd, Newbury for all of his life. He began as a Journeyman Millwright & then became a Steam Engine Fitter. He married Eliza Ann Hatt, dressmaker, of Jack of Newbury St, Newbury in 1861. Eliza was the daughter of James, an Ostler until disabled by 1861, & Elizabeth Hatt who lived at 78, Northbrook St in 1841 & then at 22, Jack O 'Newbury St, off Northbrook Rd, Newbury(1951 &61). They brought up 8 children at Pleasant Place, next door to Richard's parents. Three children, Pollie, Albert & Annie are buried in plot P(B)1. Sources: NRC Bur Recd; Ancestry records.
