Primrose Day seems a success

Daytime opening brought lots of new visitors

For once the weather on a Welcome Day  was on our side. The Japanese paper windows were re-installed in the Chapel - with help from our lovely Artisits in the Chapel. Children's activities were popular: easter egg hunt among the graves; word search; paper primroses. Joan Stacey managed to pick lots of poisonous plants from the cemetery for the poisonous plants display. Elizabeth Capewell displayed the geological samples created for a recent visit from St Nic's School. Trisha Whitaker led the Artists, Angels and Authors Tour in the afternoon.

Carol Brindley, budding author, arrived to locate the grave of her great great uncle, James Stocker. We managed to determine the general area it should be in but the gravestone was no longer standing. Maybe it was the fact that David Clow arrived carrying a spade but three schoolgirls present decided to help. And when the adults had given up they carried on and uncovered James's name in the earth. Now we look forward to reading Carol's book when it is finished!
