Wanted: Public Relations Liaison Volunteer

The Friends of Newtown Road Cemetery need a new Volunteer Public Relations Officer

The Friends (FNRC) are a dynamic organisation working with the Town Council to breathe new life into this historic Victorian cemetery which is also a haven for wildlife and a vital open space in a residential area.
FNRC was set up in Oct 2009 to assist the Town Council in reopening this important heritage site in Newbury where a few national and many locally important people were buried.
We have made a dynamic start and already hosted several events in the cemetery, tours, talks and organised corporate volunteering days through the Newbury Volunteer Centre. We are run by a committee and have active special interest groups covering History Research, Monuments and Nature, and a liaison person who is developing links with local schools.
We work in partnership with the Newbury Town Council and receive Grants from bodies such as the Greenham Common Trust.

We are looking for a volunteer to take responsibility for publicising the activities of The Friends Group. This will involve writing press releases, a bi-annual newsletter, advertising forthcoming events, and liaison with local newspapers, TV and radio stations.
You will be a committee member and need to join as a Friend (by donation from £5pa) so that you are covered by our Insurance.
There will be scope for you to develop the role according to your commitment, skills and interests, and to be involved with a team of enthusiastic volunteers in a worthwhile project which is improving the environment and interpreting the importance of the local history, conservation and educational value of the site.
Apart from evening committee meetings (usually every two months) and occasional open days, you will work from home, largely dictating your own times.

If you are interested in this position, please contact the FNRC committee by e-mail at committee@fnrcnewbury.org.uk and we will arrange for a member of the committee to meet you for an informal chat to discuss the position and its role.
