John William Thompson (1872 – 1926)

                             Sarah Caroline Thompson (1871 – 1944)

                                   

Sarah was born 5 September 1871 in Mortimer the daughter of Thomas & Theodosia (nee Barrett) Nash. She was recorded with her parents in the 1881 & 1901 censuses. In the 1881 census they were living at 47 Kings Road in Reading & in 1901 in Sandhurst in Berkshire. At present no trace of Sarah in the 1891 census. She married John William Thompson in late 1901 in Easthampstead district. John was born circa 1872 in Wallsend in Northumberland.

 

In the 1911 census John & Sarah with their only child three year old daughter Iris Florence May & a boarder Albert Thompson were living in Woolhampton. John was recorded as a newsagent & tobacconist with Sarah assisting in the business & the lodger Albert was also an assistant.

 

John was recorded in the electoral registers living in Woolhampton from 1912 to 1914 & from 1920 both John & Sarah were recorded at Brown's Cottages in Woolhampton. Sarah was still at this address in 1931.

 

John died April 1926 at Royal Berks Hospial in Reading & was buried on 12 April at Newtown Road Cemetery.

 

When the National Register was compiled on 29 September 1939 Sarah was living by herself at 39 Salcombe Road in Newbury & was recorded as companion help.

 

Sarah died August 1944 at the County Council Emergency Hospital & she was buried 1 September at Newtown Road Cemetery.

 

Sarah's parents Thomas & Theodosia were also buried at Newtown Road Cemetery.
