George WESTALL born Boxford, Berks in 1842 the youngest of 11 children.

He married Emma CLARK in October 1873 and they lived in various parts of the Leckhampstead/ Boxford area until the early 1890's when they moved to Newbury.

George had several jobs, mainly Agricultural Labourer. He died on 6 January 1898 whilst working as

Jobbing Gardener in the garden of Donnington Priory, Newbury. When laying a hedge, he felt thirsty and went to the potting shed for a drink - usually weak beer from a barrel kept there – and instead drank from the barrel containing paraquat. He died within an hour despite a doctor attending him. There was an inquest held on 7 January 1898 and the death was registered by the Coroner, J.C. Pinniger.

His funeral service was held at St. Nicolas Church, Newbury and he was buried at Newtown Road cemetery on the 8th January 1898.

George left Emma with 8 children, 4 being between the ages of 14 and 8.

My grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Westall, was George and Emma's oldest child in a family 11.
