John William Stratton
c1890-1891
John William was the son of George and Mary Maria Stratton (nee Hilliard) who were married on the 23rd July 1885, in Burbage, Wiltshire (George was from Speenhamland, Berkshire)
His mother Mary Maria was baptised in 1860, in Burbage, Wiltshire, the daughter of John and Sarah Anne Hilliard (nee Nutley) who were married on the 31st July 1851, at St George, Camberwell, Surrey.
John William’s father Geroge was born in 1859 in Lambourn, Berkshire, the son of David Stratton and Ann Savery (no marriage found for this couple).
George and Mary Maria also had the following children:

George Brice, 1887 in Newbury
Hubert Leslie, 1892 in Newbury
Catherine Dorothy Mary, 1896 in Newbury
The 1891 census records George (31), a Grocer’s Assistant, Mary (31), Elsie (4), George (3) and John William (1) living at 3, West Street, Newbury, Berkshire.
John William died aged 1 year 10 months, on the 6th November 1891. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 9th November.
In 1901 George (40) a Baker & Grocer, Mary (40), their children, Elsie (14), Brice (13), (George Brice) Leslie (7), (Hubert Leslie) Dorothy (4) (Catherine Dorothy Mary) his two sisters, Martha Stratton (42), a Sick Nurse, Annie (30), a School Teacher and a lodger, William Goodwin (60), a Baker, were recorded living at Ecchinswell Shop, Ecchinswell, Hampshire.
George (51) a Baker & Grocer, Mary (51) and their children, Elsie (24), Brice (23), an Assistant Baker, Leslie (19), a Domestic Gardener and Dorothy (14) were Still Living in Ecchinswell, in 1911.
Mary Maria Stratton died aged 56, in 1916, in Hampshire.
The 1921 census records George (62) as a Baker & Grocer, living at Mount Pleasant Ecchinswell. His son George Brice (33) and his daughter-in-law, Annie E. Stratton (33) were recorded living with him, George was recorded as assisting his father.
George Stratton died aged 79, on the 11th October 1938, at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading, Berkshire. Probate records Administration Oxford, 6th January 1939, to his married daughter Catherine Dorothy Mary Hayes. Effects: £876 17s 4d.
