Robert George Pike was born on the 13th June 1825, in Hampshire. He was baptised on the 10th December 1825, in Ashmansworth, Hampshire, the son of George (a Shoemaker) and Mary Pike (nee Maskell) who were married on the 17th September 1812, at All Hallows, Whitchurch, Hampshire.

George and Mary also had the following children baptised in Ashmansworth:

Henry George, 27th February 1814

Sarah, 25th October 1815

Leah, 6th October 1817

Mary Jane, 9th July 1819

John, 1824

Charles, 14th May 1828

Groom: Robert Pike, full age, bachelor, occupation, Yeoman, abode, East Woodhay

Bride: Fanny Gough, full age, spinster

Fathers: George Pike, a Shoemaker and George Gough, a Painter

Witnesses: John Hanley Hunt and Elizabeth Keens

(Fanny was baptised on the 15th November 1826, at St Nicolas, Newbury, the daughter of George (a Painter) and Fanny Gough (nee Keens) who were married on the 24th February 1826, at St Nicolas, Newbury (witnesses, Joseph Keens and Elisa Gough)

Robert and Fanny had the following children:

Mary Elizabeth, born 1850 (died aged 7, in 1858, buried in the NRC on the 20th February, as Mary Elizabeth Pike)

Fanny Maria baptised 31st October 1852, at St Nicolas, Newbury, (parents Fanny and Robert George Pike, a Postman of Stockcross)

George Frederick, born 1853, baptised 26th February 1854, at St Nicolas, Newbury (parents recorded as Fanny and Robert Pike, a Postman of Newbury. George died aged 15, in 1866, buried in the NRC on the 23rdJune).

Rosa, born 1855, baptised 25th November 1855 in East Woodhay, Hampshire (parents Fanny and Robert Pike, a Postman of East Woodhay)

Alice Ellen, born 1857, baptised 9th November 1862, at St Nicolas, Newbury (parents recorded as Fanny Robert George Pike, a Postman of Newbury)

The 1851 census records Robert Pyke (25), as a Baker, living in Stockcross, Berkshire, with Fanny (24), their daughter Mary Elizabeth, aged 5 months and a servant, Ann Johnson (17).

Robert Pike died aged 35, in 1858, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1st November. (Surname recorded as Pyke on burial record)

Fanny after Robert’s death:

The 1861 census records Fanny (34) as a Monthly Nurse, living in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with her children, Fanny (9), George (7), Rosa (5) and Alice (3)

In 1871 Fanny (42), a Midwife and her daughter Rosa (15), a Servant, were recorded living at 4, Bartholomew Street, Newbury, with Fanny’s widowed grandmother Frances Keens (88), a Retired Milliner, Fanny’s great aunt, Mary Hobbs (60), a Milliner, her aunt, Elizabeth Keens (48), a Milliner and Newsagent and Alfred Keens (18), a Photographer and George Keens (13), an Erand Boy who were both Frances Keens grandsons.

In 1881 Fanny (49) was recorded as a Parish Nurse, visiting at “The Infant Nursery” 35-36 Upper Brook Street, Winchester, Hampshire.
