Caroline Stone

Caroline, her parents, siblings and early life:
Caroline was baptised on the 8thOctober 1826, at St Nicolas Church, Newbury, Berkshire, the daughter of Joseph (a Carpenter) and Jane Wheeler (nee Hall) who were married on the 3rdOctober 1825, at St James the Less, Pangbourne, Berkshire.
Caroline’s mother Jane was baptised on the 1stJanuary 1802, at St Mary, Kintbury, Berkshire, the daughter of John and Sarah Hall. Jane died aged 50, in Stockcross, in 1852.
Caroline’s father Joseph was born on the 22ndOctober 1800. He was baptised on the 16thNovember 1800, in Pangbourne, Berkshire, the son of Richard and Mary Wheeler. Joseph remarried in 1854. His 2nd wife was Hannah Mason (nee Beale). Joseph died aged 79, in 1880. He was buried on the 13thMarch, at St Mary, Greenham.

The 1841 census records Caroline (14) living in Stockcross, Berkshire, with her father Joseph (40), a Carpenter, her mother Jane (35) and her brothers, John (12) and Henry (3).
In 1861 Caroline (34) was working as a Cook, for a W. J. Strange (49) and his family, in Aldermaston Wharf, Aldermaston, Berkshire.

Charles and Caroline had the following two children:

In 1871 Charles (47), a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Caroline (42), Charles (6), Jane (2) and Charles’ mother Ann Stone (75), were living in Woodspeen Road, Woodspeen, Berkshire.
The 1881 census records Charles (56) a General Labourer, Caroline (53), Charles (15), a General Labourer/Servant and Jane (13), living in Woodspeen, Berkshire.
Caroline was widowed in 1884, Charles died aged 61. He was buried on the 19thDecember, at St Mary the Virgin, Speen.
In 1891 Caroline (64), a Laundress and her son Charles (25), an Agricultural Labourer, were still living in Woodspeen.
The 1901 census records Caroline (74), living alone, in the hamlet of Bagnor, Speen, Berkshire.
Caroline’s son Charles died aged 42, in the Newbury Infirmary, on the 31stJuly 1908, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 3rdAugust.
In 1911 Caroline (84), was living at 3, Winchcombe Place, Newbury. Her daughter, Jane (43) was living with her.
Caroline’s daughter Jane died aged 43, in 1912, in the Workhouse Infirmary. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 30thJanuary.
Caroline (85) also died in the Newbury Infirmary in 1912. She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 5thFebruary.
