William Plumb

William, his mother, siblings and early life:
William was baptised on the 24thMay 1822, at St Peter and St Paul, Marlborough, Wiltshire, the illegitimate son of Elizabeth Plumb. (Reputed father, Richard Holloway)
William’s mother Elizabeth was baptised on the 17thMay 1795, in Hampstead Marshall, Berkshire, the illegitimate daughter of Ann Plumb.
Elizabeth never married. She also had the following three illegitimate children:
Ann, born c1826, in Greenham, Berkshire
James, born c1828 in Newbury
Henry, born c1838, in Newbury. (Possible father Robert Walding)
Elizabeth Plumb died aged 73 in 1866, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 27thAugust.
In 1841 William Plumb (15) was recorded living in Middleton Yard, Newbury, Berkshire, with his mother Elizabeth Walding (45), (Elizabeth Plumb) Robert Walding (45) his siblings, Ann Plumb (15), James Plumb (14) and Henry Walding (3)
William in later life:
In 1851 William (29) was recorded living with James Cope (44) and his wife Sophia (41), in Wash Common, Newbury, Berkshire. James Cope was recorded as a Publican and Blacksmith, William was recorded as a Servant (Blacksmith)
William’s future wife Jane Holly (17) (Holley) was recorded as a Servant, living with her brother William (30), an Innkeeper and her nephew John (2), in Andover Road, Newbury.

The 1861 census records William (37), a Gardener, living in Old Road, Newbury, with Jane (27) and their daughters, Amelia (5) and Ann Eliz. (1)
The 1871 census records William (48), a Gardener, Jane (38), Amelia (15), Annie (11) and Jane (8), living in Old Road, Newbury (surname recorded as Plumbo on ancestry)
In 1881 William (59) a Gardener, Jane (49), Jane (19), a Servant, William (7) and two lodgers, were recorded living in West Mills, Newbury.
William died aged 61, on the 30thSeptember 1882, he was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 4thOctober.

In 1891 Jane (60), her son William (17), a Tinman and Whitesmith and her adopted son, Walter Sims (17), were recorded living at 3 Elm Lea Cottages, Old Newtown Road, Newbury
Jane died aged 63, on the 28thMarch 1893, she was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 1stApril
