Eliza Tucker
c1837-1914
Eliza was baptised on the 16th November 1837, in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, the illegitimate daughter of Ann Williams.
Elizabeth’s mother Ann was baptised in 1816 in Great Bedwyn, the illegitimate daughter of Sarah Williams. Ann married George Lawrence on the 25th July 1840, in Great Bedwyn.
In 1841 and 1851 census records Eliza has been recorded as Eliza Lawrence, living in Brook Street, Great Bedwyn, with her mother, stepfather and half-siblings as follows:
1841: George Lawrence (30) a Bricklayer, Ann (24) Eliza (3) and Elizabeth (2 months).
1851: George Lawrence (43), a Labourer, Ann (34), Eliza (13), Elizabeth (10) and John (2)

(Thomas was baptised on the 25th May 1834, in Baydon, Wiltshire, the son of John and Sarah Tucker (nee Liddiard) who were married on the 29th July 1832, in Aldbourne, Wiltshire).
Thomas and Eliza had the following children:
A female child born 1859, (died without being named, buried in the NRC on the 21st June 1859)
Emily, born 1860, (baptised 17th August 1860, (dad recorded as a Smith) died aged 0, buried in the NRC on the 25th August 1860)
Elizabeth, born 1861 (baptised 10th November 1861, dad recorded as a Smith)
Emma, born 1864 (baptised 27th March 1864, (dad recorded as a Blacksmith) died aged 2, buried in the NRC on the 23rd April 1866)
Ann, born 1865 (baptised 25th December 1865, (dad recorded as a Coach Maker) died in 1865, buried in the NRC on the 1st January 1866)
Edward Tom, born c1867 (baptised Edward Thomas, 10th February 1867, (dad recorded as a Viceman) died aged 3, buried in the NRC on the 22nd September 1870).
Herbert Henry, born 1868 (baptised 7th February 1869, (dad recorded as a Coach Viceman) died aged 2 in 1870, buried in the NRC on the 28th September, as Bertie John)
Walter, born 1871 (baptised 9th April 1871, (dad recorded as a Viceman), died aged 6 months, buried in the NRC on the 8th September 1871)
Arthur, born 1872 baptised 21st September 1872, (dad recorded as an Iron Worker), died aged 24, buried in the NRC on the 20th July 1896)
Ernest Frederick, born c1874 (baptised 7th June 1874, dad recorded as a Smith) died aged 23, buried in the NRC on the 30th August 1897)

The 1861 census records Thomas (25), a Blacksmith and Eliza (23), living in Northbrook Street, Newbury, Berkshire.
The 1871 census records Thomas (36) as a C. Viceman, living in Packer’s Buildings (off Northbrook Street), with Eliza (33) and their children, Elizabeth (9) and Walter (6 weeks).
In 1881 Thomas (45), an Iron Works Labourer, Eliza (42), Elizabeth (19) an Upholsteress, Arthur (8), Ernest (7), Ada Kate (5) and Jessie (2), were living in the City, Newbury.
The 1891 census records Thomas (55) as a Boiler Maker, living in Harrow Place (City), Newbury, with Eliza (52), Arthur (18), a Printer, Frederick (17), a Bricklayer’s Labourer, Kate (15) and Jessie (12).
Thomas died of heart failure, aged 59, whilst at work on the 12th November 1894. He was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 16th November.
The 1901 census records Eliza (62) and her daughter Kate (25), a Domestic Housemaid, living in Derby Road, Newbury, with Eliza’s married daughter Elizabeth Stone (38) and her husband Jacob Stone (38).
The 1911 census also records Eliza (73), living in Derby Road, Newbury, with her married daughter Elizabeth Stone (45) and son-in-law, Jacob James Stone (46).
Eliza died aged 76, on the 16th June 1914, She was laid to rest in the Newtown Road Cemetery on the 17th June.
